How do I reset my DIRECTV receiver?

There are two ways you can reset your receiver:

Method 1: Press the Reset button

Step 1

On some DIRECTV receivers there is a red reset button located inside the access card door on the front panel. Press it, then wait for your receiver to reboot.

Note: On some receiver models, the reset button is on the side of the receiver.

Method 2: Unplug your receiver

Step 1

Unplug your receiver’s power cord from the electrical outlet, wait for 15 seconds, and plug it back in.

Step 2

Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver. Wait for your receiver to reboot.

What is SAP and how does it work?

Your DIRECTV service includes SAP (Secondary Audio Programming), which allows you to enjoy English-language programming in several different languages. The language you select on-screen will become the default language for all of your programming and will activate automatically whenever SAP is available.

If you have a Standard receiver or a DVR:

1.     Press MENU on your DIRECTV remote control
2.     Select PARENTAL, FAV’S & SETUP
3.     Select SYSTEM SET-UP
4.     Select AUDIO
5.     Choose LANGUAGE and select your language of choice

If you have an HD receiver or an HD DVR:

 

1.     Press MENU on your DIRECTV remote control
2.     Select SETTINGS & HELP
3.     Select SETTINGS
4.     Select AUDIO
5.     Choose LANGUAGE and select your preferred language

24-hour SAP channels include Boomerang, Disney XD and Cartoon Network. Many of the movies on DIRECTV CINEMA™ have the SAP functionality. Many of DIRECTV’s premium channels also offer shows and movies with SAP (see below for complete list). Other channels offer SAP on a show-by-show basis. If a particular program is SAP enabled, it will be indicated in the program description that appears on the channel guide. To use the SAP function, press the GREEN button on your remote control.

DIRECTV Error Code 721

This error might be caused by one of the following situations:
  • The channel you’re trying to watch is not included in your programming package.
  • Your receiver is not processing the programming information on this channel.

To resolve the issue yourself, follow the steps below or watch the video.

Solution 2: Check your channel lineup

STEP 1: Sign in to your DIRECTV online account.

STEP 2: On the My Overview page, click Print Channel Lineup.

STEP 3: If the channel you’re trying to watch is not included in your programming package, click Change Package to easily upgrade your package.

Solution 3: Reset your receiver

STEP 1: Unplug your receiver’s power cord from the electrical outlet, wait for 15 seconds, and plug it back in.

STEP 2: Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver. Wait for your receiver to reboot.

STEP 3: Go to My Equipment to refresh your receiver again.

Refresh your service

Many issues, such as missing channels, can be fixed by “refreshing” or “reauthorizing” your receiver. Please visit the My Equipment page and then select the “Refresh Receiver” link next to the receiver you’re having trouble with.

Please note: Your service might be interrupted for a few minutes. If your receiver is not fully functional within 5 minutes after your refresh request has been submitted, please call us at 1-800-531-5000.

DIRECTV Error Code 920

This error occurred because your receiver wasn’t able to download the guide information from the satellite for more than 3 hours.

Is the issue happening at your Genie Mini location?
A. Yes: Troubleshoot the issue from the main Genie Server
B. No: Continue running a system test on the receiver

System Test

STEP 1
Press MENU on your remote control

Select Settings & Help

Select Run System Test. This may take a few minutes.

If no codes are returned, then the receiver temporarily lost communication and normal functionality should return shortly.

DIRECTV Error Codes 761 or 762

Solution for LIVE SHOW: (Solution for DVR/Recorded Show Below)
Solution 1: Check your receiver’s access card

Step 1

Open the access card door on the front panel of your receiver and remove the access card.

Step 2

Reinsert the access card. The chip should be facing down with the logo or picture facing up.

Note: On some receiver models, the access card slot is on the right side of the receiver.

What is DirecTV One-Line Guide and how do I use it?

One-Line Guide is a handy feature that lets you browse the on-screen guide while you’re watching TV full screen.

If you have a white universal remote, press the BLUE button. If you have a Genie remote, press ENTER. You’ll see the one-line guide on the bottom of your screen. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW buttons to scroll through the channels one at a time. When you’re done, press the BLUE button (or ENTER if you have a Genie remote) again to close the guide.

How do I turn on DIRECTV subtitles?

DIRECTV now makes it easier to read closed captioning. With the new DIRECTV Subtitles feature, you get the same text as standard closed captioning, but it’s now easier to read and more visually appealing. Here’s how it works:

  • While watching a live TV program, press the YELLOW button on your remote.
  • You’ll see an option for DIRECTV Subtitling.
  • Use the arrow button to highlight it, then press Select.
  • DIRECTV Subtitles will appear over the video.

DIRECTV Subtitles are perfect for noisy bars and gyms, where it’s hard to hear the audio. And it’s a great visual improvement for the hearing impaired. It’s available on the following receiver models: H21 and above; HR 21 and above, and R22.

DirecTV Genie Remote Programming Instructions

ON/OFF Turns both DIRECTV® Receiver and TV ON or OFF at the same time. (Remote must be programmed for TV. HD DVR still records when o .) GUIDE Press once for On-Screen GUIDE. Press twice for programming grouped into categories. RECORD RECORD program now playing or highlighted in the On-Screen Guide. Press twice to record the entire series. RED CIRCLE BUTTON Press to delete recorded shows from your playlist. MUTE MUTE the sound. REPLAY REPLAY previous six seconds. REWIND REWIND at increasing speeds— press up to four times. PLAY/PAUSE PLAY current program. Press once while program is playing to PAUSE. DASH Press for Guide Options while viewing On-Screen Guide. Press for playlist options while viewing playlist. Press to display last 6 digits of receiver ID, satellite signal type (SWiM or Multiswitch) and Internet status. LIST Display the LIST of your recorded programs. EXIT EXIT the menu and return to previous channel viewed. SELECT SELECT item highlighted on screen. INFO Display INFORMATION about the program now playing or highlighted in the On-Screen Guide. PREV Return to PREVIOUS channel viewed. ADVANCE ADVANCE 30 seconds. Press and hold to jump ahead to the end of a recorded program.   1. Select SETTINGS & HELP, SETTINGS, REMOTE CONTROL
  2. Select IR/RF SETUP
  3. Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight RF
  4. Press SELECT
  5. Select CONTINUE
  6. Complete by following on-screen prompts
